Dry Fractionation is
employed to separate the dry Glycerides with high melting points from the low
melting point ones by employing crystallisation. Either by adding heat
(distillation) or removing heat (condensation, the processing plant separates
hydrocarbon mixtures based on the vapor pressures of its component molecules.
The by-products include propane, butane, and ethane. Being a physical
modification of the palm oil, The palm oil fractionation process is
designed to separate palm oil into two fractions- Olein
and Stearin. This is custom designed as a physical process and
occurs without the addition of any chemical or solvent. Mectech’s fractionation plants are
failsafe and depended upon to produce stable and filterable crystals
consistently such that the market demands can be fulfilled with products that
meet or exceed every quality standards and requirements. It
thus ensures continued returns for your investments. Mectech's bio-diesel
system innovates technology and is versatile enough to be used in different
kinds of fresh vegetable oils (e.g. sunflower, rape seed oil, palm oil) but
also fats.
PALM
OIL FRACTIONATION PLANT
Mectech's crystallizers
utilized for fractionation incorporates a cooling coil with customized design
in order to provide a large cooling surface area. This leads to formation of
better crystal nuclei on which crystals are grown and hence perfect crystals.
The slowness of the agitation and agitator configuration is designed to
maintain the oil mass moving without stagnation even when it is nearing the
cooling stage. The crystals developed during the process separated
by employing a membrane filter press enabling the squeezing
out of the stearin cake to optimize the extraction of liquid olein.
PALM
OIL FRACTIONATION PROCESS
The multi-step process
consists of:
·
Heating the feed oil
·
Formation of crystals by controlled cooling
·
Crystal growth
·
Maturation of crystals
·
Filtration to separate Olein and Stearine
The desired quality of
R.B.D. Palm oil obtained after passing through various processes is pre-heated
to about 70o C to obtain a
homogeneous entity without any solid mass. Mectech has innovated a
PHE through which the oil temperature can be maintained as desired. Oil is
fed continuously and the flow rate controlled by utilizing an oil flow
control valve. In the 1st and 2nd crystallizers
cooling is achieved by adding ordinary water- directly from the cooling tower
at a temperature of 32°C, thus optimizing the inputs and lowering process
costs. Cooling in the 3rd and 4th crystallizers is
accomplished with chilled water, made available from the vapor absorption
chiller at 7o C.
During the cooling
sequence, samples are taken at regular intervals from the crystallizer for
analysis of their physical behaviour. The physical properties of the
olein and stearin fractions, such as cloud point, slip melting point and solid
fat content are dependent on the crystallization
temperature. On-flow crystallization method ensures that the cooling
and crystal formation has been attained in all the crystallizers.
The flow continues through compensator to the filter in absence of
any energy source – through gravity. Oil from the compensator is filled
in the membrane filter by gravity and after attaining a pressure of 1.5 – 2
kg/cm2, the filter pump is designed
to start. For filtering the olein from the filter press,
all operations such as opening, closing, squeezing and washing and
discharge of the stearin to the stearin melting tank are
automated and computerised. This optimizes the process ensuring not only
greater returns but consistency of quality and failsafe operations.
