What Is The Difference Between Distillation And Extraction?

Extraction in the edible oil refinery comprises numerous processes. Inside  the solvent extractor, solids  comprising flakes from the flaking machines or cakes from the pre-presses) are moved through the conveyor equipment, and  while a mixture of hexane and oil (miscella) is positioned to  spray during the movement. This leads to the  production  of  deoiled solids containing solvent and miscella in the  extractor . Usually extraction requires  additional steps  compared to others in case  the solvent needs recycling.
As the leading player in offering 360o solutions to the edible oil industry, Mectech offers innovation for total customized solutions.

THE MECTECH ADVANTAGE
The customized   belt type horizontal extractor, desolventizing toaster, distillation system and heat recovery system have extremely high efficiency and ensure   the best of performance in terms of quality of oil, quality of DOC. The consumption of inputs as well as the amount of   hexane loss is also minimal
      Requires Minimum field interruption
    Scheduling  compression
    Finest  recovery rates

Distillation:

Distillation System acts efficiently  to  separating mixture and is versatile enough to utilized  in numerous types of applications. It is entirely a physical process for separation and hence is more eco friendly. The process itself depends  entirely on the differential  boiling points  in the miscible fluids and the one  with very low boiling point  is best suited  as vapors will be richer. In physical refining, the fatty acids are removed by steam distillation -a process called stripping process that closely resembles deodorisation. The low volatility of fatty acids (depending upon chain length) makes higher temperatures  a prerequisite  in physical refining as compared to that required for   deodorisation. Usually,   a maximum temperature of 240-250°C sufficiently  reduces  the free fatty acid content to nearly  0.05-0.1 percent.

Important Features:
Results in greater  Purity in  Output
      Leads to Low Pressure Drop
Pressure Consistency occurs at every stage
      Energy Consumption Reduced
      Higher  Efficiency

What Is Process Of Cooking Oil Refinery Plant

Crude vegetable  oil is inedible due to the presence of    harmful elements like  free fatty acids (FFA), gums, sediments, odoriferous and coloring materials. These need to be  removed completely to make the oil edible. Refined vegetable oil is sourced from    the seeds of various plant sources. The fats from plant seeds are polyunsaturated and are identified by  a chemical structure enabling   these  to stay  in fluid state at room temperatures , but also become quickly  rancidity through oxidation- that can also release   cancer-causing free radicals in the body. The refining process that removes these impurities  is a highly intensive mechanical and chemical process.

Refining ensures the  removal of gums, waxes, phosphatides and free fatty acid (F. F.A.) from the oil and the process also impart uniform colour and eliminates unpleasant smell by removing  of odiferous matter. Refining is carried out in two ways a) Batch operation . It is usually carried out  for processing less than thirty tones of oil per 24 hours, or for oil with  F.F .A. content of 1 % and  less normally batch process is recommended. Batch process is normally preferred as it requires  low capital investment, simplicity of operation and low maintenance thus enabling a viable proposition even at low capacities of 10 TPD b)  continuous operation. Though chemical refining is widespread, physical refining is  carried out with certain oils .

The multiple steps involved are :

Degumming / Neutralization
A process of removing phospholipids- that  can lead to dark colored, off -flavor oil in order to improve its physical stability and facilitate further refining.

Continuous Bleaching

“Bleaching” is a process of selective removal of  Color pigments, Dirt, Trace metals, Removal of polycyclic Aromatic compounds, Phospholipids and other  impurities by the physical and chemical interaction of an adsorbent with an oil or fat to improve its quality.

Deodorization

Deodorization is a physical vacuum stripping process wherein  a given amount of a stripping agent (usually steam) is passed for a given period of time through hot oil at a low pressure to remove  volatile components. However, since it is usually carried out at high temperature (220 to 250°C), some chemical, thermal effects may take place as well.

Edible Oil Cake Solvent Extraction Plant

Solvent extraction is the process to ensure extraction of  oil from solvent or crude  i.e, Soyabeans, sunflower, cotton seeds, rapeseeds, peanuts, canola, rice-bran, palm kernel etc.Solvent Extraction Plants are employed  to perform the operation - that is to  extract oil directly from sunflower seeds, peanuts, cotton seed, palm kernel, canola, copra, castor and others. These are usually fitted with  with drum shaft, brush shaft and mesh cleaning arrangement. Oil extraction usually starts from soybean seed oil preparation that must  be dehulled, cleaned, and dried before sending to the next extraction process.

Solvent extraction process comprises:-
1) Preparation of seeds for extraction
2) Desolventising
3) Distillation
In the soybean oil extraction for example , the soybeans must be cut into flakes and then passed through a percolation extractor  before being  immersed with a solvent.Oil refining is another step  in the soybean oil processing. This is because  oil obtained by pressing or solvent extraction process always contains impurities such as phospholipids, FFA, pigment, off-flavor and other impurities. The oil is made  edible by elimination of  the impurities  through a process is called "Oil Refining".
Solvent extraction plant comprises of:
        Seed Preparation: Roller mill / Flaking mill / Cooker-Conditioner / Expander-Extruder
Roller Mill: for  preparation of oilseeds prior to direct solvent extraction.
Cookers-Conditioner: Custom Designed to condition the seed for better extraction through  heating and optimising  moisture content
Flaking Mill: In built  smooth rolls suitable for flaking oilseeds or cakes prior to solvent extraction.

THE PROCESS
The Horizontal model comprising of articulated band conveyor assembly is fed  the CRUDE       from the Feed Hopper and transport  at a very slow predetermined speed. This moves  from the feed to the discharge end. The conveyor rides over the rails fitted  inside the Extractor and on specially constructed sprocket at either end. A customized  adjustable damper is fitted  for height adjustment of the bed of material on the chain conveyor. A  series of Spray breakers for the perfect spray of the solvent is also present on the moving bed, with  provision for sight glasses. The Band Conveyor Assembly is custom  designed to act as filter bed for eliminating the fines. To efficaciously clean the  mesh, it is  replete  with rotary brushes & mesh cleaning system .
